Reiki is a Japanese energetic therapy which works to balance and enhance the flow of energy or “ki” in the body. It is based on the Eastern belief that “ki” energy runs in and around the body and feeds and nourishes all the cells and organs in the body. When this energy flow is compromised (injuries, repressed emotions or traumas, stress, poor quality food, etc.) the energy does not circulate as efficiently and, therefore, the parts of the body that it corresponds to may begin to experience diminished function.
A reiki session is an opportunity to clear out and balance the energies in the body so that it runs as smoothly as possible and nourishes all aspects of the body. This can mean relief and healing at all levels – mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. Some people even use it to prevent depression or anxiety.
Reiki is effective for pain relief and healing on a physical level, yet it is most well-known for its calm and gentle way of soothing mental and emotional crisis. Reiki is done with the client fully clothed, lying on a massage table. It is safe for the elderly and injured and many clients fall into a light sleep during a session.
I have seen it relieve pain, especially in the knees and back, as well as to stimulate digestion and to calm the mind.
If you are interested in booking a reiki session with me (or Sharon, my mom) you can do so here.
